Broadband Energy’s NYSEC Project
Two-year project to develop and test new broadband applications clustered around energy and building/home automation, information and messaging.
Location: New York City and the surrounding five boroughs.
The project is being developed by Broadband Energy Networks Inc. and ECONnergy Energy Co. Inc. with additional funding from the NY State Energy Research and Development Agency (NYSERDA).
Energy and Information Services will be delivered over a broadband network to customers selected from diverse market segments including:

machine shops
grocery stores
gas stations(75) MDU (multiple dwelling units)
retirement communities
dormitory housing (schools, military, complexes)
apartments
low-income housing(25) Single-family Residences in the NY area
typically homes with zoned HVAC systems
Applications include remote facility and equipment monitoring, energy usage analysis, equipment control and automation, bill presentment and payment, security and life safety monitoring, air quality monitoring, outage reporting, emergency notification and other information-based services. Broadband Internet connectivity over the utility snd building premise power lines will also be demonstrated.
Applications are being integrated into the Broadband Energy platform during Q3-Q4 2004.
Deployment is scheduled for installation beginning in late Q1-Q2 2005, and the pilot will begin in Q3-2005 and run until Q4-2007.

DSL Providers in pilot areas: Verizon, Earthlink and AOL Broadband
Total committed project investment to date - $1.8-million.
